With the Fourth of July fast approaching, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is reminding pet owners to take steps now to protect their furry family members from the stress and dangers fireworks can bring.
While fireworks are a festive tradition for many, the loud booms and bright flashes can be terrifying for animals—leading to anxiety, escape attempts, and even injury. That’s why ARL is sharing a few simple, effective ways to keep pets calm and safe this holiday.
Start with preparation.

Create a quiet, secure space.
Set up a cozy, quiet area in your home where your pet can feel safe. Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound and block out flashing lights, and consider playing soft music or white noise to help mask the fireworks.
