Storms rolled through parts of central and north central Iowa earlier this evening, prompting several severe thunderstorm warnings. An apparent tornado was reported in Humboldt County, touching down around 4:10 p.m. near the intersection of 120th and Virginia, just north of Hardy. According to local officials, the tornado remained over open fields, causing minor crop damage but no reported injuries.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring a break in the active weather with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and comfortable highs in the low to mid-80s.
Heat and humidity return Saturday, with highs near 90 and heat index values climbing into the mid- to upper-90s. On Sunday, a cold front is expected to move through the state, bringing another round of storms and heavy rainfall.
Flood watches remain in effect for several rivers in Iowa:
- Cedar River at Cedar Falls and Waterloo (Black Hawk County)
- Winnebago River at Mason City (Cerro Gordo, Worth, and Floyd counties)
- Raccoon River at Des Moines Fleur Drive (Polk County)
- North Raccoon River near Perry (Dallas County)
