Flood Watch Remains In Effect Across Central Iowa

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flood Watch for much of central Iowa, including Wapello County and the Ottumwa area.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through 1:00 a.m. Friday, October 2.

Forecasters say excessive rainfall could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks and streams. Additional runoff may also cause water to collect in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage. Area creeks and streams are already running high in some locations, increasing the potential for flooding if additional heavy rain falls.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when traveling, especially in areas where water may cover roads. Never drive through a flooded roadway.

The National Weather Service is also tracking additional flood warnings and flash flood warnings in portions of Iowa as heavy rainfall continues.
