The Henry Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold an America 250 flag retirement ceremony Sunday, October 11.
The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. and will provide an opportunity for community members to come together and properly retire American flags that are worn or no longer suitable for display.
Organizers will collect flags from several local drop-off locations ahead of the ceremony. Flags can be dropped off at the Marion County Courthouse, the Memorial Building in Pella, or any Pierschbacher location in Knoxville, Chariton, Melcher-Dallas, Milo or Lacona.
Community members may also bring their flags directly to the ceremony on October 11.
The ceremony will include the respectful retirement of worn American flags, along with the presentation of a Braille American flag to the Marion County Veterans Affairs Office. Community members who properly display the American flag will also be recognized with a special certificate.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and invite family and friends.
Organizers say the ceremony is a chance for the community to come together, honor the American flag and recognize the importance it holds for the country and those who have served.
