A southeast Iowa man on the sex offender’s list is accused of sexually assaulting a woman last month.
Anthony Gomez of Oskaloosa, 35, has been charged with sexual abuse – second or subsequent offense, a Class A felony, and sex offender – registration violation first offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Court records say a woman told the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office that Gomez picked her up in his vehicle around midnight on September 19th and parked the vehicle near a bridge in Beacon.
The woman told a deputy that they began engaging in sexual activities but Gomez performed an act against the will of the victim despite her telling Gomez to stop and attempting to push him off her. The sheriff’s office says Gomez later sent text messages and called the victim to apologize for the incident.
According to court documents, Gomez pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse in 2018 in Wapello County. As part of the plea deal, Gomez was ordered to register as a sex offender.
After his arrest for the September incident, the victim informed the deputy that she and Gomez used Snapchat to communicate. As a sex offender, Gomez is required to submit any and all internet identifiers but he did not register his Snapchat account with authorities. He was charged with a sex offender registry violation.
Gomez is currently being held in the Mahaska County Jail on a $502,000 bond. He’s been ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
