A Fairfield man is facing a misdemeanor charge after allegedly interfering with officers during an arrest Sunday morning.
Chase Feagins, 42, has been charged with Interference with Official Acts — Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor.
Officers were conducting a criminal investigation into assault and public intoxication in the 400 block of East Burlington Avenue at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 19th. According to court documents, an officer told Feagins he was detained and that his freedom of movement was being restricted, and that he was not allowed to return to the residence at that time. Despite being given a lawful order, Feagins allegedly attempted to walk around the officer to get to the residence. The officer was forced to physically restrain Feagins and place him in handcuffs.
After being transported to the Jefferson County Jail, Feagins allegedly made a quick step toward a corrections officer that was perceived as aggressive. Officers and corrections staff continued to order Feagins to stop resisting while attempting to carry out their duties, including removing his handcuffs. Sometime between the initial arrest and Feagins’ continued resistance at the jail, the arresting officer sustained two small open wounds on their right hand as a result of the interference.
Feagins has since waived his preliminary hearing that was scheduled for July 29th and has posted a $1,000 surety bond.
