The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has launched a new Volunteer Opportunities tab on its website, creating a central resource where residents can find ways to get involved with local nonprofits, organizations, and events. The page is now live at https://fairfieldiowa.com/volunteer/.
The initiative was developed as part of a project by the Next Level Leader class — also known as Leadership Fairfield 2.0 — and was brought forward by Alissa Ward of Iowa State Bank, Dr. Pat Jones of Fairfield Dental Clinic, and Barbara Jeffrey of TrafFix Devices.
Chamber Director Mendy McAdams said the hub was a direct response to feedback the Chamber has heard repeatedly from residents. “We often hear from residents — sometimes just days after an event — that they would have helped if they had known,” McAdams said. “This new volunteer hub creates a central, easy-to-access place where organizations can share their needs and where community members can find meaningful ways to get involved.”
The page allows nonprofits and event organizers to post current volunteer needs, making it easier to recruit help and spread the word. Residents can browse opportunities that match their interests, availability, and passions. With warmer weather bringing an increase in community events, the Chamber said the timing of the launch is intentional — volunteer demand tends to grow significantly in the spring and summer months.
Beyond supporting local causes, volunteering has been shown to benefit those who give their time as well. Research indicates that volunteering can improve mental well-being, reduce stress, build new skills, and foster a stronger sense of connection and purpose.
Nonprofits and organizations are encouraged to submit their volunteer needs to take advantage of the platform and reach a wider audience.
