The American Red Cross has presented Chris Irish of Grimes with the prestigious Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders in recognition of his heroic actions earlier this year, when he used CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED) to save the life of a coworker.
The incident occurred in March at Ferguson Home Enterprises, where Irish was on duty when he learned a fellow employee had become unresponsive. Drawing on his Red Cross training, Irish took immediate action—directing another coworker to call 911 while he assessed the situation and began life-saving efforts.
Using techniques learned in the American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED course, Irish administered chest compressions and utilized an AED until emergency responders arrived on scene. Thanks to his swift response and effective use of his training, his coworker has since made a full recovery.
Irish was formally recognized on Friday, July 11, at Ferguson Home Enterprises during an award presentation ceremony. The Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders is the highest honor given by the American Red Cross to individuals who save or sustain a life using skills learned through Red Cross training.
