The Wapello County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom program is preparing for another year of bringing agriculture to life for local students, with Coordinator Hailey Shultz busy organizing lessons, activities, and educational resources for the upcoming 2026-27 school year, according to a press release from Wapello County Farm Bureau.
The program brings hands-on agricultural education directly into local classrooms, helping students understand where their food, fuel, fiber, and other everyday products come from. Each classroom visit features a lesson tailored to the age group and interests of the students, with topics including Iowa staples such as corn and pigs, as well as cattle, sheep, and many other commodities. Every lesson includes an interactive activity designed to reinforce key concepts, along with videos from Wapello County farmers giving students a firsthand look at local agriculture in action.
Lessons are designed to complement existing classroom curriculum and can be integrated into subjects such as science, math, social studies, and language arts. Throughout the school year, students have opportunities to participate in agriculture-based activities that increase their awareness of how farming impacts their community, state, and world.
