Laris (Larry) LaRoy Glosser, 78, of Blakesburg, passed away on March 21, 2025 at his son’s home, Jason (Holly) Glosser, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 5, 1946 in Ottumwa to Richard Henry and Betty Jane Barnett Glosser. He lived all his early years on his parents’ heritage farm near Blakesburg. He moved 1 1/4 miles away from the family farm where he lived the rest of his days.
Larry graduated from Davis County High School in 1964 and he always said it was lucky that he graduated. On November 26, 1966, he married Rose Marie Blumer in Unionville at Fairview Church.
Throughout his life he farmed with his family. In his younger years he spent many hours making a living by shearing sheep and grave digging. Laris and Rose milked dairy cows for the majority of their married life. Later, they raised beef cattle with their sons. Larry liked to spend his days at the sale barns, and you never knew what exotic animal he was going to bring home. He started doing custom haying with his wife and sons, which many now know as Glosser Farms. Up until the summer of 2023, Larry was still an important part of the family business. Larry and his sons, Brent and Jason, were inseparable until Jason found the love of his life. You would not have found a harder working man in his young adult years. As Larry became unable to do the manual labor, he became a great “foreman” up until his final days. He was a strong believer in helping all persons and working hard and he definitely instilled these values in his children.
Many days he could be found in his Kubota, usually right in the way of the boys, but that’s where he needed to be to stay up to the minute of what was going on around the farm. Jana and Marc blessed Larry with his first grandson Kale, and waited seventeen years before his last two grandsons came along. Larry’s grandsons gave him a reason to live as long as he did. He spent many hours teaching his grandsons important parts of farming. He was one of the greatest babysitters and became a tender-hearted Grandfather. He spent many hours driving his grandsons around to put them to sleep, teaching them how to drive, teaching them to be ornery, and watching them play at the sand pile.
Surviving is his wife, Rose; their children, Jana (Marc) Casteel, Brent Glosser and Jason (Holly) Glosser; three grandsons, Kale Casteel, Landon Glosser and Lance Glosser; siblings, Richard (Sue) Glosser, Janice (Ed) O’Dell, Michael (Debra) Glosser, Doug (Ronda) Glosser and Timothy (Jackie) Glosser; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wade Glosser and all his in-laws.
According to Larry’s wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are planned. His ashes will be spread on The Glosser Farms.
