Charles “Tootie” Wratten, 91, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025 at the Hearthstone Cottages in Pella, Iowa.
Charles was born in Albia, Iowa, on March 24, 1933, to Fred and Nellie (Barnett) Wratten. Charles graduated from Albia High School with the class of 1951. He and his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Carter, were married June 23, 1951. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2016.
Charles worked for John Morrell & Company in Ottumwa, Iowa, and upon the plant’s closure he transferred to another plant in Arkansas City, Kansas. Upon retirement from Morrell, Charles and Lorraine moved back to Albia where Charles took a job in maintenance at the Monroe County Hospital prior to his final retirement. Charles’ priority was his family and he greatly enjoyed holidays and birthdays when the family would gather to celebrate. His hobbies included woodworking and caring for the yard and Lorraine’s beautiful flower garden. He stayed active and would often be seen walking to town “for exercise” well into his late 80s.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine; his parents; his siblings, Donald Wratten, Fred Wratten, Leo Wratten, Edna May Stocker, Harold Wratten, Delores Khoury; and stepbrother, Robert Barnett. Left to cherish his memory are his children: William (Myrna) Wratten, and Ann (James) Huyser, granddaughters: Jean Ann (Randall) Watts, Sandra Wratten, Lindsey Wratten, and Hillary (Alex) Carter, great grandchildren: Rose Watts, Maddox, Ryker, Sawyer, and Colton Wratten, and Kai Carter, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025 at Sinnott Funeral Home, 2030 Hwy 5, Albia, Iowa with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Visitation with the family present will be at 10:30 prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to Wesley Life Hospice. Read Less Print Obituary
