An Ottumwa man attempted to pull a victim into his vehicle by her hair according to police.
45-year-old Christopher Hale was charged with assault while participating in a felony, 1st-degree burglary – bodily injury, driving while barred, domestic abuse assault, and willful injury resulting in bodily injury.
On November 1, court records say Hale was driving a vehicle and passed the victim’s car which was driving on South Ward Street. Hale parked in front of the victim’s vehicle which forced the victim to stop, almost causing a collision. Authorities say Hale exited his vehicle and threw the victim onto the street by her hair. Hale attempted to force the victim into his car by punching and slamming her head on the vehicle.
Court records say Hale and the victim were in a relationship and have cohabited together for seven months. Addionally, Hale sent numerous threatening messages to the victim and said he would kill her, according to law enforcement.
According to court records, Hale has two prior domestic abuse convictions. Hale is barred from driving and is only allowed to drive to and from work.
Hale was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He pleaded not guilty and has a preliminary hearing on November 11.
