Peter Fletcher will be performing a concert on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Ottumwa Public Library at 6 pm. He is an American classical guitarist based in Detroit and New York City. His recordings on the Centaur Records and Towerhill Recordings labels have been critically acclaimed.
Peter offers an audience-friendly, solo recital including repertoire that runs the gamut from the Renaissance Period through the 20th Century.
His program features Bach’s Third Lute Suite and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Three Dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius; American guitarist and composer Andrew York’s Jubilation; the ever-popular Caprice No. 24 by Paganini; Barcarole and Danza Pomposa by Polish composer Alexandre Tansman.
Peter is especially excited to perform Simple Gifts, a Traditional Shaker Hymn arranged for guitar by guitarist Christopher Parkening. This piece, as well as Jubilation, are part of Fletcher’s Christmas album, released in 2015.
There will be music by Dowland, Ponce, Villa-Lobos, and the concert will culminate with Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz’s Córdoba and Leyenda from Cantos de España, arranged by Fletcher from piano to classical guitar
His interests outside of music include gardening, running, bike riding, and fountain pens. An avid reader, he prefers the works of Cervantes, Proust, Faulkner, and Balzac.
