Richard Vanderpool, 74, of Sigourney and formerly Oskaloosa, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Windsor Place Senior Living in Sigourney.
Richard Lee Vanderpool, the son of Jack and Mary Geraldine (Sands) Vanderpool, was born December 6, 1951 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The family lived in Red Oak and later Granger, where Richard graduated from high school. Following his education, Richard worked in construction, auto mechanics, and the carnival circuit. On October 29, 2016, he married Sheena Robertson in New Sharon, Iowa. He was known by many as the best shade tree mechanic. After his son, Billy, was working, Richard and he worked side by side operating Wolf Auto in Oskaloosa.
Richard’s passion was riding his motorcycle and driving his Corvette; you could say he had a need for speed. He enjoyed partying with family and friends and lived his life as a One Percenter.
His family includes his wife, Sheena of Sigourney; his children, Jessica (Kamron) Gordon of Oskaloosa, Billy Pennington of Oskaloosa, Billy (Kimberly) Vanderpool of Sigourney, Eric (Ashley) Vanderpool of Ottumwa and Brandon Robertson of Des Moines; two sisters, Ada (Rand) Darrow of Susanville, CA and Carroll (Carl) Allender of DesMoines; and a brother, William Vanderpool of Des Moines.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Vanderpool and Jacquelyn Buchman.
Family and friends are requested to meet at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Windsor Place Senior Living in Sigourney to give Richard his last ride. The ride will end at the Cabins at Eveland Access, where a celebration of his life will be held. As was his wish, his body has been cremated. Memorial contributions may be made in his name.
