The Iowa Department of Public Safety is recognizing Senior Trooper Tom Clark #395 as he officially retires today following 32 years of service to the State of Iowa.

Originally from Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, Clark attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. During college, he worked as a reserve deputy and part-time jailer for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He also worked part-time for the Pleasantville Police Department and the Melcher Police Department.

In 1994, Clark joined the Iowa Department of Public Safety with the Iowa Capitol Police Division. In 1997, he was promoted to the Iowa State Patrol and assigned to District 1 in Dallas County, where he spent the majority of his career.

In 2019, Clark transferred to Decatur County in District 2, where he continued serving until his retirement.

Throughout his career, Clark was a longtime member of the midnight shift in both District 1 and District 2. He also served as a K-9 handler for several years and was assigned to the Interdiction Team, where he assisted with numerous drug arrests and cash seizures.

Clark was also involved in several high-profile incidents during his career, including the apprehension of two separate murder suspects. Early in his career, he received a commendation for locating and freeing a kidnapping victim.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety said Clark has been an invaluable asset to the department and to the State of Iowa throughout his 32 years of service.
