Bloomfield City Council Discusses Code of Ordinance Amendment

The Bloomfield city council met and held a public hearing the night of September 5th to discuss the amendment of chapter 41 of the code of ordinances regarding the sale of and discharging of fireworks. The amendment would change the dates that fireworks are allowed to be sold and discharged within the city. No members of the public showed up for the public hearing.

The first two sections of the amendment dealing with the timing changes are:

Section One. Chapter 41.12(2)(B) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Bloomfield is amended to read as follows: 
“Dates of Sale. It shall be unlawful to sell consumer fireworks without meeting the requirements specified in this ordinance, or to sell fireworks outside of the dates specified below.
(1) Approved consumer fireworks sales meeting the requirements of this chapter shall be allowed from an approved permanent structure or building between June 20 and July 4.
(2) Approved consumer fireworks sales meeting the requirements of this chapter shall be allowed from an approved temporary structure between July1 and July 4.

Section Two. Chapter 41.12(3)(E) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Bloomfield is amended to read as follows:
No person shall discharge a consumer fireworks device outside the following dates and hours: July 2 through July 5 from the hours of 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Exception: discharge hours are extended to 11 p.m. on July 4 only.

Some other items on the agenda included approving a retail alcohol license for Brothers market, discussing water issues on Madison street, approving quotes for purchases and repairs, and more.
