An ethanol plant in north-central Iowa is gearing up for harvest.

Dave Sovereign is chairman of the board at Golden Grain Energy in Mason City.

“We’re getting things cleaned up and making room. Making sure the bins are cleaned out (and) aeration system is working, conveyor system is working.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the American Coalition for Ethanol Conference in Minneapolis Thursday, he said corn harvest could begin by mid-September and an above-average crop is expected.

“This spring was a little bit wet and delayed things a little bit, but I think the crop has made up ground decently. And I think we’ve got some good stands out there, looks healthy. I think a lot of people sprayed with fungicides in order to keep them healthy.”

Golden Grain has the capacity to produce more than 120 million gallons of ethanol annually.
