Gregg Doud:
Increasing global demand for U.S. dairy is a key topic at this week’s K-State Risk and Profit Conference in Manhattan.
“Our cheese exports are extraordinary,” said Gregg Doud, President and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation. “Way beyond what we’ve seen or done before.”
Doud says dairy is third in exports behind corn and soybeans.
“In two of the last of the last four years we’ve been at about $9.5 billion. We’re going to be over $10 billion this year.”
He tells Brownfield, “We’re way up in Mexico. March and April versus March and April last year, we’re up 30 percent. It’s really been remarkable. It’s Asia. It’s Central America. It’s Mexico.”
However, he says, other countries are also exporting dairy products at record pace, creating more competition for U.S. producers.
