The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning which could potentially affect most of central and southern Iowa.

The Freeze Warning goes into effect at 11:00 PM on Friday and lasts until 10:00 AM on Saturday.

The overnight low temperature is expected to dip into the 20s which is expected to kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing might be damaged as well.

The National Weather Services recommends individuals take steps to protect vulnerable plants from the cold.

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Saturday’s high is expected to be in the mid-40s for Ottumwa. Rain is in the Saturday night forecast with the low anticipated to be in the low 30s.
