An Ottumwa man was arrested Tuesday night after police say officers found him inside a stolen vehicle.

27-year-old Dallas Tapley has been charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony.

Ottumwa police say officers responded to the 200 block of Adella Street based on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

According to court documents, Tapley was discovered inside the vehicle that was parked on the wrong side of the street and facing the wrong way. Upon further inspection, officers noted there were no keys in the car and it was hotwired. Additionally, the license plate was allegedly altered.

Aurthorities say the vehicle was confirmed stolen when the VIN number was searched.
