Iowa farmers are being recognized on National Farmer’s Day, observed annually on October 12, for their contributions to agriculture, the state’s economy and communities across Iowa.

Agriculture plays a major role in Iowa, where farmers grow crops such as corn and soybeans and raise livestock that support the state’s food production and agricultural industries. Their work helps supply food, feed and other agricultural products to consumers and markets throughout the country and around the world.

Farming requires year-round commitment, from preparing fields and planting crops in the spring to managing growing conditions, harvesting in the fall and caring for livestock throughout the year. Farmers also face challenges, including changing weather conditions, rising production costs, equipment expenses and fluctuating commodity prices.

In Iowa, agriculture supports not only farm families but also local businesses, grain elevators, agricultural suppliers, transportation services and other industries connected to farm production.

National Farmer’s Day offers an opportunity to recognize the individuals and families who work to keep Iowa agriculture moving forward. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting local farmers and understanding the role agriculture plays in everyday life.

On October 12, Iowans are encouraged to recognize the farmers who help feed families, sustain rural communities and contribute to the state’s agricultural heritage.
