A Pella man is facing a felony charge after allegedly showing up at a protected party’s residence in Knoxville in violation of a no contact order and being found with shotgun shells in his vehicle — despite being prohibited from possessing ammunition.

Robert Funk, 75, has been charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm or Offensive Weapon by a Domestic Abuse Offender, a Class D Felony, and Violation of a No Contact Order, a Simple Misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Knoxville officers were dispatched at approximately 10:36 a.m. on Thursday, October 8th to a residence on East Robinson Street in Knoxville regarding a no contact order violation. The no contact order was confirmed to be active, with Funk listed as the defendant and the homeowner as the protected party. The protected party told officers that Funk had pulled into their driveway, exited his vehicle, knocked on a side door of the residence, and then left before officers arrived. The incident was captured on doorbell camera footage, witnessed by the protected party themself, and confirmed by two additional neighbors.

Funk was located in Pella and taken into custody. Several 12-gauge shotgun shells were found in the vehicle. Funk admitted to going to the protected party’s residence and acknowledged the shotgun shells were in his vehicle. Under the terms of the no contact order, Funk is prohibited from being in the immediate vicinity of the protected party’s residence and from possessing ammunition. Court documents also note that Funk has a prior misdemeanor domestic violence conviction and is a convicted felon.

Funk was released on his own recognizance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 15th.
