Dry weather helps northwest Iowa farmers make up harvest progress

The outlook for the harvest season in northwest Iowa has improved dramatically.

Paul Kassel grows corn and soybeans near Spencer and says September was extremely wet.

“We were pretty depressed there the last couple weeks of September, man it didn’t look very good. When it wasn’t raining it was drizzling, and when it wasn’t drizzling it was foggy. So we were really concerned about the quality of the crop and stalk quality and standability. But since then we’ve had some great days.”

He tells Brownfield the soybean harvest is wrapping up in his area.

“And there will be people done with corn later this week or early next week, so the progress is doing really well.”

Kassel says yields are mostly better than anticipated.
