A major road construction project in Mount Pleasant is complete, finishing 30 days ahead of schedule and under budget.

The project involved the complete reconstruction of Winfield Avenue from Broadway to Grand Avenue, along with the addition of nearly one mile of recreational trail.

The improvements expand Mount Pleasant’s recreational trail network to more than 10 miles, connecting residents to destinations such as East Lake Park and Mount Pleasant Community High School.

City officials highlighted the importance of the improvements in enhancing the community’s quality of life. The expanded trail network provides additional recreational opportunities for residents while helping attract new residents, support local employers and encourage families to remain in the community.

The project was made possible through two federal grants administered by the Iowa Department of Transportation, along with financial support from Henry County.

The city also recognized Warner Engineering, Jones Contracting, Kenny and Sons, utility partners and public works crews for their contributions to the project.

The completion of the Winfield Avenue project marks a significant investment in Mount Pleasant’s transportation infrastructure and recreational trail system.
