The National Weather Service in Des Moines is warning Iowans to stay weather-aware as multiple rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to continue through the week and into the weekend.

Forecasters say repeated heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding and river flooding in areas that receive the heaviest rain.

For tonight, thunderstorms are expected to be concentrated mainly across northern Iowa. The threat becomes more widespread Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service says the potential for severe weather returns Friday afternoon and evening, with another chance of severe storms Saturday morning. Damaging winds are expected to be the primary severe weather threat.

Residents should continue to monitor the latest forecasts, especially if they live in areas prone to flooding or have outdoor plans Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service encourages residents and local agencies to share the latest weather information and remain prepared for changing conditions.

The latest weather briefing is available from the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
