Twenty-five years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Oskaloosa students and first responders will help the community remember the 2,977 lives lost that day.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, Oskaloosa High School Student Council members will place 2,977 individual American flags across the Oskaloosa town square, carefully spacing each flag to create a temporary memorial. Students will be available for interviews as they assemble the display.
The flags will serve as the backdrop for a community commemoration beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11.
The flag installation on Thursday will provide a strong visual opportunity as students transform the town square one flag at a time in preparation for the 25th anniversary remembrance.
