Friends and community members are coming together to support Viv as he continues a long and difficult recovery following emergency heart surgery.
On August 18, Viv was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after suffering a severely torn aorta. During his first 26 hours at the hospital, he underwent three surgeries lasting a combined 22 hours.
His medical journey has continued with five additional surgeries. Complications from a lack of blood flow during the initial operations resulted in the removal of his colon and portions of his intestines.
Now, 38 days into his hospital stay, Viv still faces several more months of treatment at the University of Iowa. Once he is released, he will likely need time at a rehabilitation facility to rebuild his strength, relearn how to walk, and work toward returning to everyday life.
To help support Viv and his family during this challenging time, a fundraiser is being organized, with all proceeds going directly to Viv.
