A Mount Pleasant man faces three felony charges after a 6-year-old child was found with multiple injuries following an alleged physical assault.

Shawn Tucker Jr., 23, was charged with Willful Injury – Causing Bodily Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Air/Blood Flow Causing Bodily Injury, and Child Endangerment – Bodily Injury — all Class D Felonies.

According to court documents, Iowa Health and Human Services began investigating an allegation of physical abuse on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026, with Tucker identified as the offender. An interview with the child took place at school that day.

On Wednesday, October 21st, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office assisted HHS with a welfare check on the child. Investigators determined that after the child returned home from school on October 20th, Tucker became angry upon learning that HHS had spoken with the child and physically assaulted him.

The child told investigators that Tucker had choked him, stepped on him and had previously kicked him in the ear. The child was found with injuries to his face, eyes, ears and neck, including abrasions to the left side of his face, bruising to both ears, scratches and red marks on his neck, bruising under his right eye and abrasions to the left side of his torso. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Surveillance video from the school confirmed the child did not have the visible facial and head injuries when HHS personnel were with him at school on October 20th.

When confronted with the allegations, Tucker admitted to being “pissed off” and pushing the child “a little bit too hard into his bunk bed,” according to court documents.

Tucker is the boyfriend of the child’s mother and lives in the same household. He was the adult present at the residence after school on October 20th until the child’s mother arrived home from work.

Tucker is being held on a $15,000 cash-only bond. A no-contact order has been requested. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 30th.
