The What Cheer Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has received a significant equipment upgrade, acquiring brand-new Dräger AirBoss Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus units, according to a social media post from the department on August 17th.
SCBAs are the air tanks and breathing systems firefighters wear on their backs when entering structure fires and other hazardous environments, providing clean, breathable air while working in smoke and dangerous conditions.
The department credited Alex Air Apparatus for their work throughout the procurement and training process. Alex Air Apparatus provided department members with a two-hour hands-on demonstration and training session to ensure firefighters understood how to properly use the new equipment before putting it into service.
The department called it a major investment in firefighter safety and expressed excitement about putting the new equipment to use while serving the What Cheer community.
