The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Tornado Warning for southeastern Keokuk County, southwestern Washington County, and northern Jefferson County in southeastern Iowa.
The warning is in effect until 10:00 a.m. CDT.
At approximately 9:10 a.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Pekin, about 11 miles south of Sigourney, and was moving east at 40 mph. Radar indicated rotation within the storm.
Communities in the Path
The storm is expected to move near:
- Richland, Packwood, Abingdon, Ollie and Linby around 9:15 a.m.
- Lake Darling State Park and Rubio around 9:20 a.m.
- Brighton, Pleasant Plain, Perlee and East Pleasant Plain around 9:25 a.m.
- Germanville is also in the path of the storm.
Take Shelter Now
The National Weather Service is urging residents in the warning area to take cover immediately.
Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows.
Those outdoors, in mobile homes or in vehicles should move to the closest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
The storm could produce a tornado, damaging winds and flying debris. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed, while damage to roofs, windows, vehicles and trees is also possible.
Residents in the warned area should take shelter now and remain there until the warning has expired or an official all-clear is issued.
