Heavy rainfall is affecting the Iowa State Fair on Opening Day, and fair officials are encouraging fairgoers to wait before heading to the fairgrounds this morning.

Officials say they are monitoring weather conditions and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Several schedule and location changes have been announced because of the rain:

  • Dean Avenue is temporarily closed due to flash flooding.
  • The Opening Historical Walk has been canceled.
  • Opening Ceremonies have been moved to the Penningroth Sale Ring and will begin at 9 a.m.
  • The Twins, Triplets and More Contest has been rescheduled for August 23 at 9 a.m. on the MidAmerican Energy Stage.
  • Dance Avenue will be rescheduled. Additional information will be announced.

Fair officials are asking visitors to use caution and consider delaying their arrival until conditions improve.

Fairgoers are encouraged to monitor the Iowa State Fair’s official website and social media channels for additional weather-related updates, schedule changes and information about conditions on the fairgrounds.
