Five people, including two young children, were injured in a chain-reaction crash Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Iowa Highways 92 and 21 in Keokuk County, west of Sigourney by Delta, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The crash happened at around 12:22 p.m. on July 14th. The report says a Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department 2019 Dodge Charger driven by 34-year-old Megan Tucker, of Oskaloosa, was eastbound on Highway 92 and approaching the Highway 21 junction. A 2026 Dodge Durango driven by 32-year-old Sabrina Ryan, of What Cheer, was stopped at a stop sign facing southbound on Highway 21. When the Durango left the stop sign to continue southbound, Ryan failed to yield to the oncoming Charger, which struck the Durango broadside.

The impact caused the Durango to slide into a 2025 Peterbilt semi-trailer that was stopped at the intersection on northbound Highway 21. Both drivers were injured, along with two children, ages 5 and 2, from What Cheer, who were passengers in the Durango. A passenger in the Charger, 47-year-old Dawn Nickel of Ottumwa, was also injured. All five injured parties were wearing seatbelts, which the crash report credited with saving their lives. Ryan and the two children were transported to Mahaska Hospital by Keokuk County Ambulance. Tucker was also transported to Mahaska Hospital. Nickel was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by Mahaska County Ambulance. The driver of the semi, 44-year-old Mark Harvey of Albia, was not injured.

The crash was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Keokuk County Ambulance, and Mahaska County Ambulance.
