The Keokuk County Master Gardeners gathered in May at the Butterfly Garden on the northwest corner of Sigourney Elementary School to install a memorial sign honoring the late Diana Romero Wehr and her lasting impact on the community, according to a social media post from ISU Extension and Outreach Keokuk County.

The butterfly-shaped sign serves as a tribute to Diana’s love of gardening, education, and creating spaces that bring beauty and joy to others. Present for the installation were Diana’s husband, two of her daughters, and fellow Keokuk County Master Gardeners who helped celebrate her memory and the dedication of the new addition to the garden.

The sign was a collaborative community effort. Students from the Sigourney Arts Department helped design it, Andy Snakenberg of Snakenberg Welding constructed the sign’s structure, and Tony Pitsch of Sigourney Body Shop painted it and added the finishing touches.

The Keokuk County Master Gardeners expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed their time and talents to bring the project to life, saying the Butterfly Garden will continue to be a place of beauty, reflection, and learning for years to come while honoring Diana’s legacy and the impact she made on so many lives.
