The Oskaloosa Police Department is reminding residents that several contractors representing R3 Roofing have completed the City of Oskaloosa’s peddler permit process and have been issued individual permits to conduct door-to-door solicitation within the city.
Police emphasize that a city-issued permit only authorizes a representative to solicit door-to-door and does not mean the City of Oskaloosa endorses the company or its services.
According to the department, permitted solicitors are required to carry and display their city-issued permit upon request, respect posted “No Soliciting” and “No Trespassing” signs, end conversations when a resident declines, leave a property immediately when asked, and avoid aggressive or deceptive sales tactics. Representatives are also prohibited from making false or misleading statements regarding roof damage, insurance claims, repair deadlines, or required work.
Residents are under no obligation to answer the door, listen to a sales presentation, provide personal information, sign documents, or allow anyone to inspect their property.
The Oskaloosa Police Department asks residents to call (641) 672-2557 if a solicitor cannot produce a valid city permit, ignores posted signs, refuses to leave, continues soliciting after being told no, becomes aggressive or intimidating, or appears to be acting deceptively. Anyone who feels threatened or needs immediate police assistance should call 911.
Police say they will continue to monitor complaints involving door-to-door solicitors and take appropriate enforcement action when violations occur.
