Indian Hills Community College has announced Michael Wetrich as its new Athletic Director, according to a social media post from the college. Wetrich succeeds Kelsi Weeks, who was named to the position on July 6th, 2024.

Wetrich, an Ottumwa native and former Division I athlete, is well known at Indian Hills having served as the college’s Head Golf Coach. In his first complete season leading the Indian Hills Men’s Golf Program, Wetrich guided the team to an NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf National Championship. He was also named the 2023 NJCAA National Coach of the Year. Over his four years at the helm, his teams never finished outside the top ten, including a second-place finish this past season. During his coaching tenure, his programs produced 11 NJCAA All-Americans, and every member of the 2026 Men’s Golf Program earned All-Region Academic Team status.

Indian Hills President Dr. Matt Thompson expressed confidence in the hire. “We are proud to have Michael represent Indian Hills as the next athletic director,” Thompson said. “As an Ottumwa native, he brings strong ties to the community and a commitment to student-athlete success. We are excited to see his vision come to life and look forward to the future of Indian Hills Athletics under his leadership.”

Wetrich said the opportunity is one he has looked forward to. “I am excited to carry on the rich history of Indian Hills athletics,” he said. “I grew up supporting Indian Hills athletic programs and understand the expectations for our student-athletes both inside the classroom and while wearing an Indian Hills uniform.”
