A Lebanon, Indiana physician is facing multiple criminal charges in Jasper County following an investigation by the Newton Police Department into allegations of sexual abuse involving a teenager.
Authorities say the investigation began after an adult reported that a longtime family friend had sexually abused them on multiple occasions while they were a minor. Detectives reviewed the allegations and determined the incidents occurred over several years.
According to investigators, Dr. Benjamin Steven Randel, 41, was identified as the suspect. Police also determined that no doctor-patient relationship existed between Randel and the alleged victim during the time the reported abuse took place.
An arrest warrant was issued, and Randel later turned himself in at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office without incident. He was subsequently released after posting a $13,000 bond.
Randel has been charged with Third-Degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C felony, Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor, and Lascivious Conduct with a Minor, a serious misdemeanor.
His initial court appearance is scheduled for July 7.
