A Hedrick woman is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop in Hedrick led to the discovery of marijuana and a handgun in her vehicle, according to Keokuk County court documents.
Marie Jackson, 21, of Hedrick has been charged with Person Ineligible to Carry a Dangerous Weapon, a serious misdemeanor; Possession of a Controlled Substance — Marijuana, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
According to court documents, a deputy observed Jackson at a gas station on June 19th at approximately 2:12 p.m. A records check on the vehicle revealed Jackson’s Iowa driver’s license status was listed as non-valid, indicating she held only an Iowa identification card and did not possess a valid driver’s license. After Jackson departed the gas station, a traffic stop was initiated. Upon contact, Jackson admitted she was aware she did not have a valid driver’s license, according to court documents.
During the stop, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed a glass bong in plain view on the rear seat. A search of the vehicle turned up a bag of marijuana on the rear seat, two bags containing partially smoked marijuana cigarettes on the rear floorboard, two metal grinders on the passenger-side floorboard, and a Taurus 9mm handgun in a pocket on the rear passenger seat, according to court documents. Jackson admitted ownership of the marijuana, grinders, bong, and handgun. The marijuana field tested positive and weighed approximately 14.7 grams.
Jackson posted her $2,000 cash or surety bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 30th.
