A Fairfield man is facing multiple felony charges after Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies found him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle sitting in the roadway early Friday morning, according to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the intersection of 120th Street and Jasmine Avenue at approximately 6:10 a.m. on June 5th after receiving a report of a vehicle sitting in the roadway. Upon arrival at 6:25 a.m., deputies observed a male subject asleep in the driver’s seat.
According to court documents, upon arrival deputies observed a glass bong smoking device in plain view in a cup holder on the center console of the running vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was then conducted.
During the search, deputies located multiple baggies containing a clear crystalline substance with a total weight of approximately 36 grams, a baggie containing a green leafy substance weighing approximately 14 grams, a digital scale, and multiple empty baggies, according to court documents. One of the baggies containing the clear crystalline substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. Court documents also note that one baggie of suspected methamphetamine weighed approximately 29 grams and did not have the appropriate tax stamp, label, or other official indicia affixed — the basis for the Drug Tax Stamp Violation charge.
Douglas Welsh, 52, of Fairfield, was placed under arrest and charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver More than 5 Grams of Methamphetamine, a Class B Felony; Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, a Class D Felony; Drug Tax Stamp Violation, a Class D Felony; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; and Driving Under Suspension, a simple misdemeanor.
Welsh is being held on a cash only bond of $35,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 15th.
