The USDA is finalizing a trade agreement to increase U.S. ethanol exports to Mexico.

Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins made the announcement Monday following a tour of an ADM processing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

“We are working collaboratively to fully realize this opportunity, so I can’t yet, I don’t want to get in front of the details of the deal because we’re finalizing it. But we have a deal in concept, I’ve been working directly with the president of Mexico and her team on it.”

She says expanded access into the Mexican market could boost U.S. ethanol exports more than 30 percent.

“Benefiting not only our farmers, but also processing mills like the one here at ADM. Which can easily help fill new ethanol demand driven by our southern neighbor.”

If finalized, Rollins estimates the trade deal would bring an additional $1.5 billion to the U.S. ethanol industry.
