Ottumwa police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance that escalated into a physical altercation, leaving one person injured.

On February 6 at approximately 8:17 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Marble Street in Ottumwa in response to a reported domestic abuse assault.

According to a criminal complaint, Madeline Lewis, 29, of Ottumwa, was involved in a physical altercation with her boyfriend. The complaint alleges the victim sustained swelling and abrasions to his face and forearms as a result of the incident.

Court documents state that Lewis reportedly pushed, shoved, struck the victim with an open hand, and scratched him during the altercation.

An arrest warrant for Lewis was served on May 4. She was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail, where she was later released after posting a $1,000 cash/surety bond.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 21. Lewis is charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor.
