Motorists should plan ahead for temporary street closures in Ottumwa as two trunk-or-treat events take place the week leading up to Halloween.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Garfield Street will be closed between North Weller Street and North Hancock Street from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, the 200 and 300 blocks of East Main Street will be closed from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. South Green Street, from East Main Street to the Green Street Parking Lot entrance, will also be closed during that time.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and allow extra time when traveling near the affected areas.
Drivers should use extra caution around both events and remain alert for children who may be focused on collecting candy and enjoying their costumes rather than watching for traffic.
With Halloween approaching, motorists are reminded to slow down, watch for pedestrians and help keep local families safe during the holiday festivities.
