Both the Sigourney and Keota boys golf programs claimed team titles Monday, April 13th, while the Sigourney girls edged out a tiebreaker victory and the Keota girls finished third in their respective meets.
Sigourney at Sigourney Golf and Country Club
The Sigourney Savages hosted North Mahaska and Iowa Valley on their home par-35 course Monday evening, with both the boys and girls teams picking up victories.
The boys put together a dominant performance, shooting a team score of 143 to beat North Mahaska’s 183 and Iowa Valley’s 193. Three Savages matched par on the day: Solon Yates shot a 35 with one birdie, Ike Molyneux shot a 35 with two, and Jordan Tremmel shot a 35 with two birdies. Landon Conrad placed fourth with a 38 and one birdie. Josh Wyatt placed sixth with a 40 and one birdie, and Hayden Bensmiller placed ninth with a 45 in varsity play. On the junior varsity side, Chase Clarahan placed eighth with a 44, Dayne Chittick placed 12th with a 48, and Christopher McLennan placed 13th with a 49.
The girls won a tight contest, shooting 191 to tie North Mahaska but claiming the team title on a tiebreaker, with Iowa Valley coming in third with 221. North Mahaska’s Aly Steil won individual medalist honors with a 42. Kayla Renner and Ella Bruns placed second with a 46. Ella Finneran placed fifth with a 48 and Clara Hanselman placed eighth with a 51. Adalynne Tremmel placed 10th with a 54 and Ellie Ireland placed 11th with a 54; their scores served as the tiebreaker that swung the team title in Sigourney’s favor.
Keota at Diamond Trail Golf Club in Lynnville
Keota’s boys and girls teams traveled to Diamond Trail Golf Club in Lynnville to take on Lynnville-Sully and HLV on the par-36 course Monday.
The Keota boys claimed the team title with a score of 165, ahead of Lynnville-Sully with 192, HLV with 196, and Lynnville-Sully JV with 217. Brennan McGuire continued his outstanding early-season form, winning individual medalist honors with a 36 and three birdies. Tucker Sprouse was second with a 41 and one birdie, Porter Cave and Aspen Galindo tied for third with 44s each, and Blake Baker placed seventh with a 47. Jacob Libe placed 15th with a 51. On the junior varsity side, Keegan Clarke shot a 52, Jake Morris a 59, and Gavin Sieren a 64.
The Keota girls finished third with a score of 261, behind Lynnville-Sully’s winning total of 210 and HLV’s 227. Brooke Hardeman of Lynnville-Sully won individual medalist honors with a 49. Hadley Cave led Keota with a ninth-place finish at 61, followed by Brynn Conrad and Emily Conger tied at 11th with 64s each, and Halle Heisdorffer 14th with a 72.
