A domestic dispute in Ottumwa escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in reported injuries and property damage.
On April 21 at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Merrouge Avenue in response to a report of a domestic abuse assault.
According to the criminal complaint, Quentin Roberts, 28, of Ottumwa, and the victim were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical altercation.
Court documents state that Roberts, without justification, grabbed the victim from behind and placed her in a headlock. He then forced her to the ground while attempting to gain access to her cell phone. When he was unable to do so, Roberts allegedly broke the phone.
Authorities reported that the victim sustained visible injuries to her throat, jawline, arm, and hip as a result of the incident.
Roberts was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released on a $2,000 cash/surety bond.
Court records indicate that Roberts waived his preliminary hearing, and a no-contact order was issued on April 24.
He is currently charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding flow of air/blood, an aggravated misdemeanor.
