Fairfield’s Nolan Smith has officially signed to continue his football career at Mount Mercy University, staying in-state to join the Mustangs this fall.

Smith capped off a strong senior season by earning First Team All-District and Academic All-District honors, along with the team’s Mark Campbell Offensive Lineman Award. He was a key member of Fairfield’s offensive line, helping power the state’s leading rushing attack in Class 3A during the regular season.

Mount Mercy University Head Football Coach MD Daniels said Smith quickly stood out during the recruiting process.

“Nolan was a young man we targeted back in early fall as his high school team was having success,” Daniels said. “Nolan checked off a lot of boxes for us from his size, ability, academic success, and overall high character.”

Daniels noted that Smith drew interest from multiple NAIA and Division III programs, crediting his family for their support throughout the recruiting process.

“Nolan’s family was phenomenal during the recruiting process as he was targeted from a bunch of NAIA and D3 schools,” Daniels said. “We are expecting a lot from Nolan as a freshman coming into our new program, and we expect him to be able to contribute right away.”

Smith’s signing continues a strong tradition of Fairfield athletes advancing to collegiate competition, and he will look to make an immediate impact as he begins his career with the Mustangs.
