With the new school year approaching, the Fairfield Police Department is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert in school zones.
City Streets crews have recently refreshed the crosswalk markings around Fairfield schools, making them more visible for students and motorists. Police are asking drivers to do their part by putting their phones away, keeping their eyes on the road and watching carefully for children in and around crosswalks.
School zones can become especially busy during arrival and dismissal times, and children may not always behave as expected. Even a few seconds of distracted driving can have serious consequences.
The Fairfield Police Department encourages motorists to slow down, remain focused and give students plenty of room when traveling near schools.
The department summed up the message simply: Phones down. Eyes up. Let’s keep our kids safe.
