Thomas David Stanek, 74, of Ottumwa died at 10:38 a.m. November 6, 2025 at Vista Woods Care Center surrounded by his family.
He was born March 31, 1951 in Kirksville, MO to George and Alice Davis Stanek. Tom married Barbara Ann Moffitt November 8, 1986.
A graduate of Kirksville High School, Tom attended Northeast Missouri State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. He earned a degree in accounting and had owned and operated his own firm, Zimmerman Stanek, for a short time. He then worked as a CPA for 37 years for Anderson Larkin & Co PC.
Tom was a member of St. Joseph Parish and attended St. Mary of the Visitation. He was a member and Treasurer of Ottumwa Noon Lions for 29 years. He enjoyed baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals having visited 18 MLB ball parks and attended game 7 of the 2011 World Series. Tom also enjoyed golf; his highlight was hitting a hole in one.
Surviving is his wife, Barb; two children, Audrey (Anthony) Carter of Lawrenceville, GA and Mark Stanek of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Trevor and Ryleigh Carter; a sister, Georgia (Steve) Lahay of Washington, MO; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Allen Stanek and Jerome Joseph Stanek Jr.; and a sister, Kathleen Walters.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 17th at Reece Funeral Home. His family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph Parish in Ottumwa or Ottumwa Noon Lions Club.
