A 66-year-old Van Buren County man was arrested earlier this week on charges stemming from a September domestic incident involving a vehicle collision.

Kelley L. Archer of Birmingham, Iowa was taken into custody in Douds on October 14th, 2025, at approximately 10:30 AM on a Van Buren County warrant. He faces one count of Domestic Abuse Assault Display or Use of Weapon – 1st Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The charge relates to an incident that took place on September 6th, 2025, on Jewel Avenue near the intersection of 160th Street in the rural Birmingham area. According to court documents, Archer allegedly used a half-ton truck to strike the victim’s four-door passenger car, causing both vehicles to wreck.

The victim, who resides with Archer and is in a relationship with him, told authorities she was actively attempting to escape because she knew Archer was angry with her at the time of the incident.

Following his arrest, Archer was released from custody with a no-contact order after making his initial court appearance. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for October 30th, 2025, at 10:30 AM.
