Ottumwa FFA takes pride in their agricultural roots. During the harvest season, farmers work around the clock to gather crops.
With FFA being heavily centered around agriculture, the chapter wanted to display their gratitude for local farmers at this busy time by providing free will donation meals to those in the field.
A google form was posted on the Ottumwa FFA social media at the beginning of the month for farm families, farmers in the field, and retired farmers to fill out. They received a wonderful response for orders, with around 100 meal requests being submitted. On October 7th, the Ottumwa FFA officer team, along with six members and parents gathered at the OCSD Ag Facility, or Bulldog Ranch as the chapter likes to call it, to cook and package meals. The meals consisted of a pulled pork sandwich, cheesy party potatoes, green beans, and a variety of homemade desserts made by FFA members and parents.
The chapter also provided bottles of water and silverware. Three officers delivered to the fields while some farmers picked up their meals. Many of the farmers the chapter served left a generous donation as a thank you.
