Communities across the country will observe National Police Week next week, with May 15 designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, the day honors law enforcement officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
Departments nationwide will hold memorials, vigils, and ceremonies to pay tribute to fallen officers and support their families.
National Police Week is also a time to recognize the ongoing dedication and service of law enforcement professionals across the country.
