Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress (GOPIP) is pleased to announce the Southeast Iowa State of the Economy, a new annual conference dedicated to examining the economic health, opportunities, and challenges shaping the region.

The conference will take place Tuesday, September 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bridge View Center in Ottumwa. The event will bring together business leaders, elected officials, economic development professionals, educators, and community stakeholders for a day of economic data, expert analysis, and forward-looking discussion.

The program will feature Debbie Durham, Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Finance Authority, discussing the state of Iowa’s economy and regional growth strategy. Economist Peter Orazem will take a closer look at Southern Iowa’s economic trends, data, and forecasts, while Matt Naumann will explore strategies for addressing workforce housing needs and valuation challenges in rural communities.

Additional sessions will examine Southern Iowa’s workforce landscape, including employer needs, demographic trends, skills gaps, and stronger connections between education and industry. Regional business leaders will also share their perspectives on navigating inflation, supply chain pressures, changing markets, and other challenges affecting today’s private sector.

Through these conversations, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the forces shaping Southeast Iowa’s future and the resources, partnerships, and strategies that can help drive continued growth and regional competitiveness.

General admission is $20 and includes lunch. Tickets are now available at https://www.gopip.org/events/state-of-the-economy.
